As the 2024 deadline approaches, professional engineers in Ohio must ensure they meet all the necessary requirements to renew their licenses. The Ohio Board of Engineers and Surveyors has outlined specific criteria and deadlines for the biennial renewal process.
The renewal period for the 2024-2025 cycle began on November 1, 2023. All individual licenses must be renewed by December 31, 2023. The renewal fee is $40.00 per license, with an additional $3.50 transaction fee. For those holding both a Professional Engineer (P.E.) and Professional Surveyor (P.S.) license, the fee is $80.00. Late renewals will incur a penalty, increasing the fee to $60.00 for a single license and $120.00 for dual licenses.
To renew their licenses, professional engineers must complete 30 hours of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) within the two-year period from January 1, 2022, to December 31, 2023. This includes at least 2 hours dedicated to ethics. Engineers can carry over up to 15 hours of CPD from the previous biennium if they exceeded the requirements1.
PDHNow, a provider of online PDH courses, offers a variety of courses that can help engineers meet these CPD requirements. Their courses are designed to be convenient and accessible, allowing engineers to complete their hours at their own pace.
The renewal process is entirely online through the eLicense portal. Engineers must certify that they have met the CPD requirements, although documentation is not required at the time of renewal. However, the Board conducts random audits, and selected individuals must provide proof of their CPD activities1.
By adhering to these guidelines and utilizing resources like PDHNow, professional engineers in Ohio can smoothly navigate the renewal process and maintain their licensure.
