Nebraska Professional Engineers must fulfill specific continuing education (CE) requirements to renew their PE license and satisfy PDH requirements. In Summary:
- Biennial Requirement: Professional Engineers must complete 30 hours of engineering-related PDH learning every two years.
- Acceptable Topics: CE (PDH) activities must be technical in nature or part of the profession’s body of knowledge, as defined by national professional engineering societies or categorized as Health Safety and Welfare topics by NCARB.
- Course Approval: The Nebraska Board of Engineers and Architects does not pre-approve courses. Nebraska Professional Engineers are responsible for ensuring their chosen courses meet the board’s criteria. All PDHNow Courses meet these requirements.
- Self-Guided Learning: Up to 25% (7.5 hours) of the required PDH hours can be self-guided. This involves activities planned and performed under the professional engineer’s own direction without a sponsor or host. This includes PDHNow online PE courses.
- Carryover Hours: Nebraska Professional Engineers can carry over up to 15 hours of excess CE credits into the next renewal period.
- Documentation: Engineers must maintain documentation of their CE activities and may need to provide it during audits by the Nebraska Board of Engineers.
These Nebraska professional engineer license renewal and continuing education requirements ensure that Nebraska PE stay current with industry standards and practices, contributing to the safety and welfare of the public.
