4D printing is the process through which a 3D printed object transforms itself into another structure using external energy such as temperature, light or other environmental stimuli.
A 4D printed object is printed similar to any 3D printed shape. The difference is that the 4D Printing technology uses programmable and advanced materials that transform and perform by adding hot water, light or heat.
So how will 4D printing effect the Engineering world? Using 4D printing will help engineers to create components that move and behave more like living organisms than anything they have created so far. With 4D printing Engineering projects can go farther than they ever have before.
