This Engineering Ethics PDH course satisfies the 1 hour of continuing education requirement of for Professional Engineer license renewal.

The course is designed as a distance learning interactive course that enables the practicing professional engineer to review the legal aspects that govern the practice of engineering.

This engineering ethic PDH course is designed to fulfill the requirements of 864 IAC 1.1-15-3(b) of the Indiana Board of Professional Engineers; Chapter 6, Paragraph 03 A (1) of the Maryland Board of Professional Engineers and has been approved by the Florida Board of Professional Engineers under Rule 61G15-22.0101(5) by providing one hour of continuing education on ethics applicable to the practice of professional engineering. In addition, this course may be used to fulfill one of the two hour ethics course requirements for Wisconsin under section A-E13.03(1)(b).


Course Objectives

The primary objective of this course is to emphasize the importance of ethics as a broad professional concern rather than a personal one; the engineer’s obligation to society, clients, and the profession; ethical dilemmas encountered in engineering practice, and an application of professional ethics to decision making through an illustrative example.

Upon completion of the engineering ethics PDH course the learner will be able to:

  • Recall and discuss the project failures and ethical issues leading up to and following the incident including:
    • The chronology and background leading up to the incident
    • The decisions and events around the structural change and subsequent roof and walkway collapse
    • The ethical issues regarding the way structural changes were made and documented
  • Based on the case-study presented, show at least two different appropriate decisions when faced with an ethical dilemma.
  • Select and support an ethical course of action using the case study reference presented.
